Commuting

Question: how can I drive less when I have to get to work, can’t find a job closer to home, and public transportation isn’t a viable option?

Then: translate this into the big picture.  How do the millions of commuters in my situation, and even those who think they’re too good to ride the bus, get to work?  Hint: the answer is not “tough luck for you.”

We’re all in this together.  Cutting down everyone’s driving is a mutual benefit.

Big-scale stuff can be scary. There is value in 1 person doing what s/he can to cut down on a carbon footprint or support a local food economy. On another level, I begin to feel guilty using my car after letting it lie fallow for 3 or 4 days. Maybe guilt is a good start too. Perhaps our brains can be re-wired to feel good walking rather than driving. Wouldn't that be something, if endorphins flooded our bodies when we did something ethically responsible...

I think this comment can lead to a larger discussion. I hope to post about it in the next couple days.
